The salaries of civil servants in Slovakia will be increased by 10 percent in 2019 and by another 10 percent in 2020, with the overall cost of the measure to reach €1.5 billion, Deputy Labour Minister Branislav Ondruš and Slovak Trade Union Confederation vice-President Monika Uhlerová announced jointly on Wednesday. "The lowest salary rate will be at the level of the minimum wage," said Ondruš. Stating that the trade unions are satisfied with the planned salary increases, Uhlerová pointed out that these are the biggest hikes for the public sector since collective bargaining of a higher degree was introduced in 2004.
