Education, Science, Research and Sport Minister Dušan Čaplovič wishes teachers and pupils alike good health and repose for the New Year. According to Čaplovič, teachers need repose for quality teaching and pupils for value-added education.
“I don't tend to make New Year's resolutions, but I hope that 2014 will be accompanied by the widest possible consensus and support for the modernisation of our education system through the gradual improvement of compensation of educational, professional and non-teaching staff of our education and school facilities," said Čaplovič. According to him, last year was a year of hard work and humility. “We are gradually modernising our education system and going through the necessary, but mostly positive changes, needed for its betterment. I'm looking for what unites us and not what we can divide us,” underlined Čaplovič. In reference to the disappointing international PISA equivalency tests carried out by the OECD in 2013, the minister said that despite broaching some of these necessary changes, Slovakia's results will continue to fall in the short term.
