Farmers’ protest drive across Slovakia

On Monday morning, Slovak farmers started a protest drive on tractors from the eastern Slovak town of Michalovce across the entire country to the capital, Bratislava. The farmers are thus aiming to make the competent institutions speed up the resolution of problems such as the unfair distribution of EU funds, which were published in March after the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak, who focused on this topic. "Approximately 100 days have passed since the medialisation of the scandal and nothing of significance has been done," said Patrik Magdoško of the Farmers' Initiative. In May, the Agriculture Minister Gabriela Matečná faced a no confidence vote. At the time, coalition partners saw no reason for her to leave and she remained in the post.
