Slovakia is set to accept another three men formerly imprisoned at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. As the Interior Ministry added in a statement published on Tuesday, none of the three detainees - all Chinese citizens and members of the Uyghur ethnic group - have ever been suspected or convicted of terrorism.
This is the second time that Slovakia has accepted former prisoners of the US Guantanamo base. As the Foreign Ministry further stated, Slovakia welcomed the decision of U.S. President Barack Obama to close down the controversial prison in Guantanamo and within a group of NATO member countries decided to accept former detainees from this prison, allowing them “to start a new life in Europe," reads the Ministry's statement. According to information acquired by the TASR Press agency, the former inmates have already been transported to Slovakia.
