January 1st marked the fifth anniversary of the introduction of the single European currency, the euro, in Slovakia. However, after five years of being in the eurozone, common people are not that happy with the currency, claims data from a poll carried out by the Focus polling agency for the Hospodárske Noviny business daily.
The research shows that more than a third of Slovaks would like to go back to the former currency, the Slovak crown. The main reason for this is the price growth in goods and services, says the director of Focus, Ivan Dianiska. Paradoxically, this perception is wrong, according to experts. The euro is not to be blamed for price increases. From the experts’ point of view, the euro currency has contributed to stability in the country.
