The number of proven domestic violence cases has increased by as much as 81% year-on-year as announced by the first Deputy Prosecutor General Peter Šufliarsky, reading the General Prosecution address in Parliament on Friday. The increase was recorded due to the order of the Prosecutor General to take stricter measures regarding this crime. One third of the perpetrators was drunk and in most of the cases the culprits were employed men with lower education. The victims included mainly female partners, ex-partners, children, parents and siblings. As for children, the majority of sexual abuse cases were conducted on girls. The General Prosecution Address proves rising trend of crimes committed via internet such as sexting and grooming.
