Anti-abortion bill likely to be killed prematurely

There is a high likelihood that a bill intending to limit the practise of abortions will be killed without making it to a vote in Parliament, Smer-SD party head Robert Fico stated at a press conference. A proposal is on the table regarding the suspension of the negotiations. If the proposal goes through, the House would not have to hold a vote on abortion limitations. Fico did not clearly state whether the ruling coalition plans on introducing their own proposal, but he highlighted the fact that there has not been any public outcry to amend the abortion laws, and that the coalition was not the one to bring this topic up for discussion. In his own words, Fico does not agree with limiting a woman's right to decide for herself whether to undertake an abortion within the first 12 weeks of her pregnancy. He also does not wish for an abortion black market to be created or for women to travel abroad to undergo pregnancy terminations. He added that he respects different opinions concerning this matter, however.
