In May, 1,390 people filed for bankruptcy protection, which is historically the highest number of personal bankruptcies within a single month, according to the Slovak Credit Bureau, which manages the credit registers of banks as well as non-bank institutions. In the first five months of this year, 5,254 personal bankruptcies were declared in Slovakia, which is more than the total number for the whole last year.
