On Wednesday the public should learn how the Slovak education system is expected to change over the next ten years. Education Minister Martina Lubyová (an SNS nominee) should at last present the long-awaited National Program for the Development of Education and Training (NPRVaV) to Wednesday's Cabinet meeting. These reforms were announced in May and stem from the authoritative document Teaching Slovakia, the Government's Program Statement and the Report on the State of Education in the country, drafted by the former education minister Dušan Čaplovič (Smer-SD). The measures are expected to cost around nine billion euro, which is to be the sum for the next ten years. After the announcement, some 50 personalities and educational experts sent an open letter to the education minister. They welcomed the Finnish model of education, but warned, "the way in which the programme was prepared without inviting key figures involved in the education sector to take part in the process casts doubts on understanding the value and content of what is included," reads the open letter provided to TASR.
