Resolution underway demanding Parliament condemn murder of Filipino

Parliament should condemn displays of hatred, intolerance, xenophobia and the recent murder of Filipino Henry Acorda, believes the chairperson of the foreign affairs committee Katarína Cséfalvayová (Most-Híd), who will table a resolution condemning the murder for the legislature to pass at the beginning of its June session. "The attack on the Filipino Henry that occurred in Bratislava, as well as other displays of hatred, xenophobia and any form of intolerance against other people, shouldn't remain without response. Maybe we don't even realise this, but our country is sending a negative signal to the world, which sometimes looks worse than reality," claimed Cséfalvayová. With the resolution, Cséfalvayová believes that Parliament would show that "we condemn even verbal attacks on foreigners or anyone else over their nationality, race, religious beliefs, gender and any other aspects that make people different from each other". The committee chair pointed out that Slovakia exists in an open, globalised world. "We need to have the rule of law, democracy and tolerance, instead of the hatred disseminated via hoaxes on social networks and statements by some politicians," she stressed. A man from the Trnava region, identified as Juraj H., 28, knocked down then kicked Henry Acorda in the head on Obchodná Street in Bratislava in the small hours of Saturday, May 26. The Filipino, who had attempted to put a stop to the harassment of two women, succumbed to his injuries at Ružinov Hospital on Thursday, May 31.
