Serbia is Slovakia's most important trading partner in the Western Balkans, Economy Minister Peter Žiga (Smer-SD) stated at a briefing after signing a protocol from the 8th session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between Slovakia and Serbia. He also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency and Serbia's Innovation Fund, with Serbian Minister for Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popović in attendance. According to Žiga, joint trade between Slovakia and Serbia amounts to approximately €700 million. "It is a bit more advantageous for the Serbian side, with their exports exceeding our exports by about €5 million," said the Slovak economy minister. He added that Serbia is investing large amounts of money in innovation centres and start-up support, stating that there are approximately 15,000 Serbian workers in Slovakia.
