Slovak scientists develop bioplastic material

Scientists from the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava are developing the second generation of bioplastic material, decomposable in soil and water. Professor Pavel Alexy and his team from the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology have innovated their invention and asked for another patent. "When we talk about bioplastic, this is either material made of renewable sources or biologically decomposable plastics. The best ones for nature are those which have both qualities and thus do not remain in nature. That's what our bioplastics are," said Alexy. The team is cooperating with companies and universities to look for ways of using the invention in real life, either in the food industry as covers or utensils, as well as in fashion.
