Number of divorces of long-term marriages has increased

Over the last 25 years, the number of divorces of long-term marriages in Slovakia has increased, indicates data from the Slovak Statistical Office. The number of marriages lasting 25 years and more which ended in a divorce was 1,800 last year. Moreover, the number of marriages has been lower in recent years. The number of marriages has decreased continuously from 1993 to 2001, when it was lower than 24,000. From that point on, the number started to grow, but with frequent annual fluctuations. The highest number of marriages in the last quarter of a century was recorded in 2017 with 31,000 weddings. During this period, the average age for getting married has increased in men from 26 to 34 and in women from 23 to 31.
