Slovakia's Foreign Ministry does not comment in principle on the procedures of the security authorities of neighbouring states, provided they are carried out in a lawful way, and this also applies to the measures that have been publicised over the past two days, TASR learnt from ministry spokesman Peter Susko. He said this in response to a statement made by Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko (Slovak National Party/SNS), who protested against the activities of the Ukrainian secret services, which staged the death of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko on Tuesday (May 29). The Slovak Foreign ministry was pleased by the fact that the journalist did not become a murder victim. "However, we don't consider it to be appropriate to use mass media for measures or actions that result in misleading the public and spreading extensive disinformation. We call for a guarantee of freedom of speech, no interference in media work and the provision of security for investigative journalists," said Susko.
Earlier on Thursday, Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko protested against the activities of the Ukrainian secret services, which staged the death of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko. The Ukrainian intelligence operation - allegedly designed to prevent the murder of Babchenko - was condemned as outrageous, undignified and reprehensible by Danko, who claimed that it was gambling with global security, as it has led to an escalation in tension between Russia and Ukraine and could have put people's lives in jeopardy. "If you want to save one life, you can't put other lives in danger. There could have been dozens of dead in a potential Ukrainian-Russian conflict," he stated.
