The Slovak investigative journalist Ján Kuciak, who was murdered in February, was posthumously awarded the prize for 'Journalists, Whistleblowers and Defenders of the Right to Information', bestowed by the European United Left/Nordic Green Left in the European Parliament on Tuesday.
He was honoured for his efforts to uncover tax fraud and links between figures from business and Slovak politicians. Frenchman Raphael Halet, whistleblower of the LuxLeaks scandal on tax evasion by major companies based in Luxembourg, also received an award.
