Milan Lučanský will become the new head of the Police Corps, Interior Minister Denisa Saková told a press conference on Wednesday. Lučanský should be in the post starting on Friday and only temporarily, until the new law on appointing the head of the Police Corps is approved.
Deputy Prosecutor General Peter Šufliarsky trusts Lučanský and praises his appointment. Lučanský was at the 40th birthday party of former Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and police officers do not trust him too much, according to the Denník N daily. The daily also cites the criticism of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová and the initiative 'We want to believe' who also dislike Lúčanský's appointment.
Jana Maškarová, currently deputy director of the National anti-crime Unit will become the Vice-president. According to the Denník N daily, the former Deputy Director of Bratislava Financial Police Jozef Lutter, who filed a criminal complaint against Kaliňák, praises her appointment.
Róbert Bozalka, currently deputy director of Police in the Trnava Region will become the second vice president of the Police Corps.
Current Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar will leave on Thursday after serving for 25 years. He said that retiring now seems too soon to him and he expressed his belief that he could contribute to public life.
