Honouring Slovak Soldiers in UN peacekeeping missions

On Tuesday, a ceremony was held to mark the International Day of UN Peacekeepers at the Conciliation Memorial in Bratislava. As Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said, almost 7,500 members of the Armed Forces Slovak have served in 19 UN peacekeeping missions so far. At the moment, 141 members of the Slovak Army are serving in UN peacekeeping missions, such as the UNFICYP mission in Cyprus. At the ceremony, the six Slovak soldiers who died while carrying out their duties in UN peacekeeping mission were honoured.

Over 18,000 members of the Slovak Army have been carrying out international crisis management-related tasks in missions and operations carried out under the auspices of the UN, NATO and EU since 1993, including 500 female soldiers. At the moment, 244 Slovak soldiers are serving abroad, including 12 women.
