As of September, every animal will be defined in the law as a living creature and not as a thing, according to an amendment to the veterinary law. The amendment also introduces measures against illegal dog breeders along with the mandatory chipping of dogs and measures against animal abuse. Moreover, veterinary inspectors will be given further powers in this field such as permission to enter a plot of land even without the presence of the police if there is a suspicion of animal abuse. They will also be authorised to take animals away from their owners if they are being abused.
