Consulates to help incoming workforce

Slovakia will have to increase its consular capacity in the countries from which it expects the arrival of the highest portion of labour, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said last week. The situation of employers who are waiting for these people should thus improve. According to Labour Minister Ján Richter, 53,690 foreigners are currently legally working in Slovakia, of whom some 30,000 are EU citizens, while 23,000 are citizens of other countries. "The number of workers from EU countries increased by 1,100 compared to the previous month, with most of them coming to Slovakia from the Balkans," stated Richter. Meanwhile, an outflow was reported in some categories in April, chiefly concerning Serbian natives. "The number of Ukrainians working in Slovakia is constantly growing, but EU citizens still prevail in the foreign labour force," stressed Richter, adding that this chiefly concerns Bulgarians and Romanians.
