Protection of journalists might improve

New legislation aimed at protecting journalists' work should be prepared, agreed representatives of publishers and editors-in-chief with the Culture Minister Ľubica Laššáková, reads a Monday press release by the Culture Ministry. According to it, all sides agreed that the term 'journalist' is not currently legally defined and the connection between the legal regulation of the media and criminal law regulation is insufficient in its current form. To improve the situation, a work group should be formed which should start working within a few weeks. The agreement came in a reaction to a controversial hearing by Slovak police of the Czech journalist Pavla Holcová, who co-operated with murdered Slovak journalist Ján Kuciak on many articles. Last week, police confiscated her cell phone with data on other sensitive cases, which are not related to Kuciak.
