On Thursday, President Andrej Kiska took the floor at the 13th GLOBSEC 2018 international security forum taking place in Bratislava until Saturday. He spoke about the problem of unscrupulous policies of countries leading to the violation of international law prevailing over the values of freedom and democracy. According to the Slovak president, the basic principles of democracy - an independent media, active civil society and strong institutions - must work correctly. Kiska pointed out that a climate in which journalists are portrayed as enemies of a political representation or a nation has been intensifying not only in Slovakia but also in other countries. The president went on to say that national interests are being jeopardised by those who openly speak about the need to protect the sovereignty of the country while spreading hoaxes and propaganda. "There is no alternative to the EU and NATO," he said.
