Poll: 73% of shoppers agree with closing shops on holidays

A total of 43 percent of Slovaks are convinced that the law according to which all stores have to be closed on public holidays has mainly helped shop employees, TASR has learnt from a poll carried out by the Staffino independent assessment system on a sample of 11,700 customers. The respondents in their evaluations stated that the law, which came into force around a year ago, hasn't really offered them many benefits, but they've been doing their best to adjust to the new situation. As many as 73 percent of customers think that with hindsight the move was actually a good idea. "People have got used to this law, but they view it mainly as helping shop employees and not as a measure that enables them to spend their free time differently. Almost one quarter of them still think that the law didn't help anyone," said Dominik Misa of Staffino. The poll further showed that 11 percent of Slovaks deal with the fact that stores are closed on public holidays by shopping in neighbouring states, while a large majority make important purchases in advance.
