Situation in RTVS discussed in Parliament

A parliamentary culture and media committee session was held on Thursday. MPs were discussing the Report on the Activities of the RTVS Council in the second half of 2017. One of the topics on the agenda was also the current situation in the public broadcaster RTVS and information published on clashes between its management and some newsroom editors. RTVS general director Jaroslav Rezník stated that "no political power has been interfering with the work of the Radio and Television Slovakia public broadcaster, and it never will." On Thursday which marked the International Press Freedom day, about 200 journalists, mainly from Slovak print media, criticized the situation in the public broadcaster RTVS. In their call to the RTVS management they wrote that "whoever tries to silence the media is infringing the public's right to access information on what is happening in the country."
