As of early May, employees will receive higher allowances for working at night, on weekends, and on a public holiday, following amendments to the Labour Code, which also included declarations of pay for potential employers. In the past, minimum salaries were something discussed in job interviews, while the new amendment means employers are now required by law to state the basic salary of the position in job advertisements. When an employer signs an employment contract with a job applicant, the basic wage may not be lower than the amount published in the job advertisement. Firms which fail to display pay rates in advertisements could be face fines of over €33,000, and if a recruited employee is paid less than advertised, the fine to the employer could reach €100,000.
