Ján Kuciak received the Transparency Award in memoriam for his investigative reports on corruption, his courage to search for the truth and personal sacrifice to the public service. "The US Embassy annually awards the remarkable successes of Slovaks who are trying to improve the lives of their fellow citizens and strengthen Slovak democracy," stated the US Embassy on its Facebook. The awards were granted by the US Ambassador to Slovakia, Adam Sterling, at a ceremony held on Wednesday. Together with Kuciak, two other Slovaks received awards, the Evangelic theologian Ondrej Prostredník and Mariana Kováčová, founder of the Slniečko Centre for victims of domestic violence in Nitra, western Slovakia.
