€183 Million is the total amount of money that Slovakia may forget about withdrawing from the EU. The European Commission has decided that will not pay a tenth of the big projects that were earmarked for EU funding. It was announced by the Government Secretary for Investment Ľubomír Vážny (Smer-SD).
From 2007 and 2013 the authorities violated procurement rules, as rival concerns were not given enough time to participate in the tenders. “It is not a disaster. It is only a problem for us, but also a number of countries,” said Vážny. Slovakia must now look to their own budget to for these projects. The Finance Minister claims it will not harm the Governments goal of reducing the deficit to three percent of GDP.
