The latest international Global Fraud Survey by the EY agency shows that 44% of Slovak companies would not hesitate to use bribes in order to ensure contracts were won by their firms during an economic downturn. Only Saudi Arabia with 54% and Malaysia with 46% had results worse than Slovakia in this survey. The Czech Republic scored only 12%, while the global average is 13%. The survey data was collected between 2017 and 2018 in 55 countries, with more than 2,500 managers of large companies questioned. Similar practices were reported in other areas of business in Slovakia. For example, as many as 82% of Slovak managers said they're ready to use cash bribes, expensive watches and gifts, or fun outings as well. In this category, Slovakia found itself in an unenviable first place, followed by Malaysia and then Indonesia. The average for Eastern Europe is 40%, and 29% in the Western European countries.
