Light Against Racial and Ethnic Intolerance

Candles will be lit in Slovak and Czech cities on the eve and during the day of Marian Kotleba’s inauguration to the office of regional governor in protest of his neo-Nazi rhetoric and his calls for racial and ethnic intolerance that he has been known for in the past.

“We want to express our rejection of the hatred that Kotleba represents - in every country, under any circumstances”. These are the words of the organisers of the initiative, who are Czech and Slovak activists and students operating under the wings of the public platform Blokujeme - 'Let’s Block the Marches'. The initiators believe that with the help of citizens, they will be able to light as many or even more candles than the number of voters who supported Marian Kotleba in the recent elections. As the SME daily brings, a series of symbolic uprisings in Slovak and Czech cities is to start on Thursday and continue to Friday, when it will be held in the Slovak capital Bratislava.
