On Monday, the financier Imrich Béreš told a press conference that he had launched a petition to support his candidacy for the post of Slovak President in the election which will take place in spring 2019. He aims to be an independent civic candidate and will make a final decision about his candidacy once he obtains 30,000 signatures - double the required number. Current president Andrej Kiska still has not announced whether he will be running for the post again.
