Pellegrini meeting with Juncker

Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini met the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and later the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, confirming to both of them that they have a strong ally for European cooperation in him. Juncker assured people in Slovakia that their country played a central role in the EU. The EC chief said that probable good news for Slovaks was the set of new measures concerning double standards in food quality proposed by the European Commission on Wednesday, with Slovakia playing an important role in resolving this issue. Juncker pointed out that the main topic of debates in the EU were the seven-year budget after 2020. He expressed the need to maintain the same level of cohesion and agricultural policy. Pellegrini told Juncker that the new Slovak Government had not changed its stance on refugee quotas, but Slovakia wanted to play a constructive role in tackling the migration crisis. Pellegrini said in conclusion that Slovakia would like to cooperate in creating the EU's long-term visions and objectives since it is difficult to talk about creating long-term budgets when it is not yet known where the EU wishes to be in 2030, 2040 or 2050.
