Government finishes its visit to eastern Slovakia

"I'm not an advocate of depopulating some areas which would lead to a transformation of eastern Slovakia into a region where only people in their retirement years live." These were the words of Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini after the first day of the government visit to the town of Sabinov, located in the poorest Slovak region. Pellegrini stated that the fact the labour force often leaves for western Slovakia is not good for the country. On Thursday, his cabinet followed up the visit to Gelnica which has a high unemployment rate. Both the towns Sabinov as well as Gelnica will receive one million euro each to help with regional development.
