152 soldiers heading to Latvia

Slovakia plans to send up to 152 members of the Slovak Armed Forces into Latvia as part of NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence in order to defend the alliance's eastern border. Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš announced: "Last year's presence of Slovak troops in Latvia, as well as the one we are currently preparing, serves as evidence of our proactive approach towards membership in the alliance." The mandate for sending two six-month rotations of Slovak troops is set to be approved by the Security Council, the Government and, finally, Parliament in the foreseeable future.
