The opening of the R1 speedway, which leads from the central Slovak city of Banská Bystrica to western Slovak Trnava, had a positive impact on employment in the region, reads the analysis by the Institute of Finance Policy (IFP) of the Finance Ministry. Since its opening in 2011, the number of tourists who spent a night in the region increased by 25 to 70% compared to the long-term average in the main holiday period. At the same time, according to the IFP, unemployment fell by 1 to 3 percentage points in the surrounding districts. The most significant improvement can be seen in the Banská Bystrica region, as well as the western Slovak districts of Šaľa, Galanta and Hlohovec, where industrial parks are located.
