Nationwide protests planned for Friday evening

Bratislava, Košice, Banská Bystrica and dozens of cities both in Slovakia and abroad are expected to see mass protests on Friday evening from 17:00 onwards, organised by the group For a Decent Slovakia. The event organisers demand a thorough and independent investigation of the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancé Martina Kušnírová, as well as early parliamentary elections, as they deem the resignation of Prime Minister Robert Fico and Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák as too little too late. The organisers state that the protests serve as a reminder that it is a legitimate demand for citizens to live in a country where corruption is not the norm, and where government circles are not linked to organised crime. Speaking at the podium during Friday's protests will be actress Zuzana Kronerová, actor Juraj Kemka, former politician František Mikloško and diplomat Ondrej Gažovič.
