Special prosecutor Vasiľ Špirko filed a criminal complaint against Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, who announced his resignation from his post on Monday, as well as top-ranking police officers, with suspicions of sabotage, according to the TASR press agency. "The given criminal complaint was registered by the Prosecutor-General's Office on Monday. In order to achieve the maximum objectivity in the criminal proceedings, Prosecutor-General Jaromír Čižnár has decided that the case will be allocated directly to a prosecutor of the Prosecutor-General's Office,' said its spokesperson Jana Tökölyová. According to Špirko, the top brass had issued an order to "discredit him as a prosecutor regarding cases assigned to him. "The specific individual who ordered the prosecutor to be discredited was Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák," explained Špirko. In the past, he presided over the investigation into a case involving Kaliňák's purchase of businessman Ladislav Bašternák's share in a company called B.A. Haus. Bašternák is suspected of major tax fraud.
