Local and global protests set for murdered Slovak journalist

Public gatherings under the slogan 'For a Decent Slovakia' will be held in dozens of Slovak urban centres, with foreign cities taking part in similar marches on Friday, with the majority of universities and colleges granting students the day off so that they can attend, reports TASR. The event organisers demand a comprehensive and independent investigation into the murders of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová with the participation of international investigators and a new, trustworthy government, which would not have members suspected of corruption and ties with organised crime. On Friday, the protest in Bratislava will begin on SNP Square at 17:00, with similar protests taking place in Banská Bystrica, Bardejov, Kosice, Nitra, Poprad, Prešov, Trenčín, Trnava, and Žilina, among others. Global displays of support for the protests are also to be expressed in various foreign cities including Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, London, Brno, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Munich, Vancouver, Prague and Stockholm.
