More than 100 witnesses have been heard so far in the case of murdered journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancé, said Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák before Parliament's Defence and Security Committee on Tuesday. He claims the case is in the hands of the largest team of criminal investigators in the police's history. He could not say, however, whether Slovak law enforcement agencies had received warnings as early as 2013 regarding Italian mafia activity in Eastern Slovakia, as reported by Aktuality.sk, the news outlet for which Kuciak worked. Minister says he does not feel directly responsible for what happened and does not think the investigation depends on him. Opposition MPs asked him to resign.
