The Slovak President addressed the media with his public statement on Sunday afternoon. Following the talks with Prime Minister about possible solutions to the current crisis, Andrej Kiska said their stances differed significantly. The President thus announced that he saw a radical reconstruction of the government or early elections as the two options for regaining trust in state representatives. He added that he would meet the leaders of political parties next week to discuss future developments and how to revive people's trust in their own state.
Andrej Kiska decided to speak at 4 pm instead of giving a speech on public TV in the evening. The public broadcaster RTVS was also asked by Prime Minister Robert Fico and Parliamentary speaker Andrej Danko to live stream their respective speeches, too. "The last thing the country needs is a political piece of theatre", said Andrej Kiska. As the President said, people's distrust of authorities is justified. He is sure that the case of the murder is being investigated by the best team and he asked people to trust the investigators, too. Even if the reason behind this murder would prove to be innocent, people are projecting their anxiety into it. "I am ready to guide this country through this difficult situation," said Andrej Kiska at the end of his speech.
