European Parliament President Antonio Tajani presented a proposal to send the EP's special investigation mission to Slovakia in connection with an investigation into the cases on which murdered investigative journalist Jan Kuciak was working. The proposal announced during the plenary of the EP on Thursday was sponsored by the European People's Party (EPP) faction. Its leader Manfred Weber said that in addition to sending a special mission to Slovakia next week (March 6), the Conference of EP Chairmen will deal with a proposal to include "an extensive and open debate" on the situation in Slovakia in the agenda of the March EP session in Strasbourg. A similar special investigation mission was also carried out in Malta based on an EPP proposal following the murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia last October.
