The fight against racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance in society, as well as freedom of religious belief and supporting the rights and the interests of children are the priorities of Slovakia's membership in the UN Human Rights Council. This was stated in Geneva on Tuesday by State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ivan Korčok during the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council. "We have committed to the 2030 Agenda [for Sustainable Development], and now is the time to find the political will to fulfil these commitments with specific content. But not only that: Slovakia aims to achieve, during its OSCE Chairmanship in 2019, greater synergy between the OSCE and the UN in order to achieve human rights, sustainable peace and security," said Korčok, who began his speech by condemning the murder of Slovak journalist Ján Kuciak. He assured those in attendance that Slovakia will "spare no effort in investigating this criminal act and in bringing the perpetrators to justice".
