Slovaks smoking and drinking less

Slovaks are becoming more actively aware that alcohol and cigarette consumption leads to early deaths, with a new survey revealing a drop in the usage of both substances. This stems from a survey which was carried out by the Office of the Public Health (ÚZZ SR), which took place across 36 regional offices throughout Slovakia in 2016. The survey questionnaire comprised 93 consumption-related questions and included 3773 respondents. Some interesting revelations included 78 percent of respondents claiming they did not smoke, with 58.8 percent consuming spirits rarely or never, with women smoking and drinking less than men in both instances. Approximately 40 percent of respondents claimed to drink milk every day, with most of these being aged under 25. Additionally, 41 percent of women answered that they consume raw vegetables every day, whereas for men it is less than 27 percent. Likewise, women maintain diets more often than men, with more than 22 percent of women interviewed having dieted in the past year, compared to less than 13 percent of men.
