The Slovak Government has offered a reward of €1 million for information leading to the identification of the person(s) who murdered investigative journalist Ján Kuciak, 27, and his fiancé Martina Kušnírová. They were found killed by a single gunshot each in their house in Velka Mača on Sunday evening. "If it is confirmed that investigative journalist Ján Kuciak was murdered over his work, I'll unleash hell," stated Prosecutor-General Jaromír Čižnár at an extraordinary press conference on Monday. Kuciak wrote for the news website Aktuality.sk, focusing extensively on tax fraud and political corruption. Its Editor-in-Chief has announced that the report on which Kuciak was working on "will be published soon". According to the SME daily, Kuciak had been investigating links between the Italian mafia and people close to the Prime Minister's Smer party; one of them a Government employee too.
