Unveiling monuments, memorials and commemorative plaques that celebrate communist, fascist or Nazi regimes should be banned, claim Opposition MPs Peter Osuský, Ondrej Dostál (both Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) and Independent MP Viera Dubáčová, who have submitted an amendment to a law to this effect for the next Parliamentary session in March. In their motion they also want to introduce a ban on naming new streets and public places after representatives of these regimes. The proposed ban does not apply, however, to existing memorials, monuments, and streets or public places. The TASR press agency published this report on February 25th, on the 70th anniversary of the start of the totalitarian communist regime in Czechoslovakia.
