Fire-fighters arrived to an unusual scene in the eastern Slovak village of Zemplín on the weekend when a stork nest perched the top of the home’s chimney caught fire, threatening to take the rest of the structure with it.
“Upon arrival to the site, we found the chimney of the house burning the abandoned nest and two fire trucks intervened”, said fire commander Róbert Roman. As stated by the mayor of the village Mikuláš Takács, the residents of the house reportedly lit a fire in the fireplace whereby the embers ignited the nest perched on top of the chimney. The mayor noted that the situation was surprising, considering the inhabitants of the house had lived in harmony with the stork nest on the chimney for 25 years and only this weekend decided to light a fire.
