The European Commission (EC) is threatening to sue Slovakia for legal changes adopted two years ago, which cancelled the mandatory health service for low-risk employees. It serves mainly as prevention of occupational diseases and injuries.
The legislation was approved in contradiction with an EU directive on this matter that has been in effect since 1989. Slovakia now faces fines of hundreds of thousands of euro, according to a report in the Hospodarske noviny daily.
