The state can expropriate private plots of land with environmental burdens if the owners of the plots are unwilling to give permission for the problems to be removed, with Parliament on Wednesday approving this change drawn up by the Environment Ministry. According to Environment Minister László Sólymos (Most-Híd), the new measure is partly in response to the planned removal of a toxic waste landfill site in the Bratislava borough of Vrakuna, where removal activities have been hampered by problems involving three plots of land. Expropriation would apply to plots of land with environmental burdens designated for removal whose owners don't want to sell or transfer them under standard conditions.
