Slovakia unlikely to receive migrants mandatorily, says Minister

If a new asylum system includes a commitment to receive migrants, it's very unlikely that Slovakia will support it, stated Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry State Secretary Ivan Korčok after meeting Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in Bratislava on Tuesday. Szijjártó added that the Visegrad Four (V4) countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) have a united opinion in this regard. He stressed that Hungary doesn't want to be a country of migrants and so "to every proposal involving quotas, we will answer 'no'". According to Korčok, the system of mandatory quotas, approved by the Council of the EU by a qualified majority in 2015, isn't working in practice and the EU has been facing deep political damage and disputes over it. Korčok stressed that it's now important to find a compromise among the member states.
