The average Slovak purchasing power is 42 percent below the European average. According to a Purchasing Power study carried out by the GfK agency; of the 42 countries that participated in the study, Slovakia ranked 23rd in terms of purchasing power. The average European purchasing power index per capita was set at 100, the figure for Slovakia standing at 58.
The average national Slovak purchasing power level - i.e. available net income per capita - equals €7,473, which means that the inhabitants of Slovakia have a total of €40.4 billion at their disposal. According to the study, European consumers have a total of €8.62 trillion at their disposal for 2013, whether for saving or spending. The average value for all 42 countries stood at €12,890 per capita, although the incomes of individual inhabitants naturally vary widely. In terms of purchasing power, Liechtenstein topped the list, followed by Switzerland and Norway. Slovakia at 23rd was ahead of its neighbours the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary as well as Ukraine, which ended up in last place. In Slovakia, Bratislava region is indisputably the wealthiest with purchasing power per capita 44 percent higher than Slovakia's average.
