Opposition wants extraordinary session on army modernisation

On Tuesday, opposition MPs wished to gather signatures for an extraordinary meeting of Parliament in order to talk about the modernisation of the Slovak army. They argue that billions of euro has been spent on the purchase of military equipment in a non-transparent way. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš (Slovak National Party/SNS) and US Ambassador to Slovakia Adam Sterling discussed the modernisation of Slovakia's army on Monday. Two UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters have already joined the fleet of the Slovak Armed Forces. Slovakia is slated to purchase nine helicopters worth €208 million via the American government programme Foreign Military Sales. "Regarding the future of the supersonic air force, I told the ambassador that we'll submit a proposal in this regard to the Slovak Government by the end of June, considering only the American F-16 aircraft or the Swedish JAS-39 Gripen aircraft," said the Defence Minister.
