Slovakia supports the initiative by the European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová aimed at placing double standards in food quality in various EU-member countries among unfair trading practices, said Agriculture Minister Gabriela Matečná, a Slovak National Party nominee. "Supranational companies need to observe the stated quality in the EU, and they mustn't supply the markets of some member countries with lower-quality products," said Matečná, adding that the European Commission has allocated money for food tests in various countries. Opposition Ordinary People's Party MP Martin Fecko said that "if we want to be in the sound core of the EU, this is an indication of how they view us". He also added that children in Slovakia should be educated from a tender age to favour local food.
